David fixes laptop after 3 years
My desktop computer died so I've had to use my laptop. The reason I haven't been using my old Compaq laptop from 1999 isn't the 4 GB hard drive or windows 98. It's because the comcrap design of where the power cord plugs into the computer.
The DV power jack (or female end that attaches onto the motherboard) breaks off easily on the old presario notebooks, as evidenced by the abundant sales of compaq DC power jacks on e-bay.
I used to have to kink the cord just right to make the female end position just right to keep contact with the motherboard. (That's a strange way of saying it but I don't know how else to explain it.)
So I bought a soldering iron, solder, a new DC power jack (from e-bay of course), and I fixed it myself! This whole computer stuff isn't so hard. In fact, I'm typing this blog from my laptop computer which works perfectly now, and I don't even have to kink the power cord to keep it turned on!
